The Holter Museum of Art, a regionally significant contemporary art museum in Helena, MT, seeks a new Executive Director to guide the organization into an exciting new chapter. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong skills in nonprofit arts management, financial and fundraising capacity, and developing community partnerships. 

Helena is a small capital city nestled in the mountains of Montana with a rich history, a small population (~60,000 in the greater area), and a surprisingly vibrant arts and cultural life. The Holter Museum plays a special creative role in this rural community.


The Executive Director provides administrative, financial, strategic, artistic, and social leadership for the Holter Museum of Art. Leading an excellent team (currently 4 full-time and 3 part-time), the ED reports to a dedicated Board of Directors, and to an engaged and supportive community.

Essential duties include:

  • Financial management
  • Fundraising and development
  • Staff & organizational management
  • Liaison and support to the Board of Directors
  • Strategic Planning
  • Developing community relationships and community presence

  • Strong leadership and teamwork

  • Basic understanding of art museums and their ecosystems
