The Director of Protection Services is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the security operations of the Museum and provides leadership in maintaining and increasing the Museum’s security to protect the buildings, collection, staff members and visitors.  Collaboration with other departments to increase security standards in a mutually productive manner is a key component of this position.


  • Manage Museum Protection Services Officers and Gallery Guard Staff
  • Ensure Museum security is properly staffed for all special event during and after business hours
  • Acts as the primary liaison between the Museum and emergency agencies such as the Shelburne Police and Fire Department
  • Work with other museum staff and various outside vendors to ensure Museum systems are operating properly and escort vendors to specific area of work for different building needs
  • Evaluate security equipment and prepare budget for Protection Services department
  • Collaborate with Collections Department on disaster preparedness planning and implement any changes to museum security protocols to ensure the protection of permanent and loaned objects
  • Assist in the onboarding of new staff


  • BA/BS, preferably in related area
  • Five years of supervisory security experience including personnel management
  • Knowledge of a diverse range of security equipment, devices, and protective procedures and activities, including highly specialized operating requirements, methods, and procedures in order to protect buildings, collection, staff members and visitors
  • Experience developing a positive and productive team and an ability to work with other members of the senior staff are essential
  • Proven track record in team leadership, staff supervision, and budget management
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk
  • High degree of computer literacy, knowledge of technology and electronic security systems
  • Must be able to climb stairs and lift and carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally
